Creating your first project

Simple steps to get started.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Firstly, what is Milanote?

Milanote is an easy-to-use tool for organizing creative projects.

It’s a flexible visual workspace where you can collect ideas, notes, images, links and files in one place. Because it’s so flexible, there are many different ways to use it — from moodboarding and note-taking to research and project planning.

Milanote helps you turn scattered ideas into organized creative work.

Starting your first project

  1. Drag a new board out from the left toolbar and give it a name

  2. Double-click your board to open it

  3. Now you can start adding content to your board from the toolbar

Adding content to a board

Milanote lets you add any type of content you'll need when planning a creative project. Here's what you can add to a Milanote board:

  • Notes

  • Images

  • To-do lists

  • Links

  • Columns (great for keeping things organized)

  • Comments

  • Tables

  • Video

  • Sketches

  • Documents & files

  • Plus much more

Starting with a template

Milanote has over 100 professional templates to help you start your creative project faster. Each time you create and open a new board, you'll see the Template picker in the bottom right where you can preview and use any template for free.

Adding sub boards

One thing that's unique to Milanote is how you can nest boards within boards—a bit like folders on your computer. This makes it easy to organize lots of information in one place.

Sharing a board

You can work in Milanote by yourself or with your team. When you're ready to invite others to your board, just press Share in the top right of the board. You can invite others to edit, comment or just view your boards.
